Tips for reducing your waste
You'll find lots of tips for reducing your waste in the Challenger's Pack (PDF, 2.7MB) and on the main 'Reduce Your Waste' section of our website. You can also follow our Greener Hackney pages on Facebook and Twitter for the latest tips on reducing your waste.
A big success
Last year 30 Hackney residents took up the Zero Waste challenge to reduce their waste over the period of a week. These residents cut their waste by a staggering 49% by reusing and recycling as much as possible.
A challenge participant says: ''I got the sewing machine out and rather than discarding clothes I am trying to 'make do and mend', patching trousers and generally altering out-of-date clothes. We are all really satisfied with the family's progress and our new understanding of how we can make a difference in our everyday lives with hardly any effort."
