Building on the success of last year, throughout June there will be free events held to celebrate the history, culture and language of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities. See below to find out more.
Launch of Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month

Hackney Central Library
Traveller communities are the largest ethnic minority group in Europe with over 12 million people. For centuries they have suffered extreme levels of prejudice. It has been necessary for some to hide their identity to survive. Eva Sajovic’s exciting photographic exhibition Be-Longing shows the richness and diversity in the history and culture of these communities.
Comic book making workshop - tell your own story!

Storytelling has always been an important part of Traveller life. Making up stories is easy, powerful and fun. Come along to this workshop and discover how to tell your own story through comic books with writer Alistair Fruish. 7 years and upwards

Come and join us for a burst of colour and creativity. A fun and messy arts workshop led by Romany artist Delaine Le Bas. Open to all ages.

Fashion Live

Come along and join us for an Irish Traveller and Roma fashion extravaganza. Expect frills, fun and frocks. Only for those with a passion for fashion!
Storytelling and Dance Workshop By invitation only. School bookings welcome.

Homerton
Tricia George will be telling a selection of tales from Gypsy and Traveller cultures. These stories will be interspersed with Broom and Turkish Romany dances for everyone to take part in!
Boxing workshop with James Cooke
Saturday 19 June, 2 - 4pm
Hackney Central Library
Boxing has long been a part of Irish Traveller history and culture. This workshop delivered by former British and European Super-Middleweight Champion James Cooke MBE will focus on the profession of boxing today and the skills needed to be a success. 8 years and upwards.
Into The West – Rio Cinema screening
Saturday 26 June, 11am
When a gigantic white stallion appears mysteriously to a Traveller grandfather and his two grandsons in a Dublin slum the boys smuggle him into their flat! Knowing the police will soon be after the horse, the boys and the stallion set off on an epic adventure. The movie explores childhood, as well as the prejudices and challenges faced by modern day Traveller communities.

Irish Traveller & Roma Live Entertainment
