Temporary Accommodation
The law states that we must provide you with a place to live if you are eligible, homeless and in priority need. For more information about this, see our Homelessness page.
Our Homelessness Assessment Team will make enquiries into your application. You may be offered a temporary place to stay while we conduct the enquiries. Temporary accommodation is sometimes referred to as ‘interim’ or ‘emergency’ accommodation. We use several types, including our own hostels and private sector homes. For more information about our temporary housing you can download the leaflets on the right hand side of this page.
If you are already in our temporary housing you can find out about our services by selecting ‘Temporary Housing Service’ and Temporary Accommodation Income Management Team’.links on the left.
Using private sector housing for temporary housing
Occasionally the Council take on private sector properties to use as temporary housing for homeless families. Property owners are referred to the Council’s preferred managing agents or housing associations that lease and manage properties on behalf of the Council.
If you have a property for rent or would like more information, please contact Sheila Harris (Procurement Manager) on 0208 356 5741 or email sheila.harris@hackney.gov.uk..
