Hackney's Cultural Policy
A Cultural Policy Framework for Hackney
In 2002 Hackney Council published its cultural strategy Support for Creative and Cultural Industries. The strategy articulated the importance of the cultural and creative industries to the economy, environment and cohesion of Hackney. It acted as a framework for the development of our cultural programmes especially Creative Futures - the two-year programme of cultural activity funded through the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
Creative Hackney - the cultural policy framework builds on the cultural strategy and establishes the political, economic and social context for the development of the cultural and creative industries over the next five years.
To build on our cultural strategy we needed to develop a framework that provided the links for culture into delivery of the Mayor's priorities, the Community Strategy Mind the Gap and other corporate strategies e.g. the Children and Young Persons Plan, Libraries Development Plan and the Green Spaces Strategy.
