Hackney Directory User Guide
Over 2,400 organisations based in or around the City and Hackney area are contained in the Hackney Directory. These organisations all offer services to people living or working in the local area - be it legal advice, health care, housing, leisure or other types of support. By understanding a few of the basic principles behind the directory, you will be able to find the information you want more easily and quickly.
What can I expect to find in the Hackney Directory?
The directory holds information on a wide range of mainly local services which offer help and support to local people. These include voluntary groups, council and health services and cover a wide range of subjects including advice agencies, doctors, education, housing, places of worship, schools, social services, transport and much more.
What can I find out about an organisation?
When researching the directory, we ask many questions about an organisation to see if it should be listed (see our criteria for inclusion for more details) and to get enough detail for you to decide if this is the right service for you. For each organisation listed we give details on what they do and how to contact them. Where this information is available, we have also added in details on disabled access, languages other than English spoken, opening times, referrals, cost of service, contact people and any publications available from the organisation. You can also look at an organisation's own website and send them an email (if they're online) or print out a map of where they are located.
What is NOT contained in the Hackney Directory?
