Hackney: the place - transport

Transport in Hackney is on the move! Recent years have seen many improvements - Hackney is now recognised as one of the top ten boroughs in Great Britain for its transport connections.

Hackney Council is committed to green travel, and is introducing better public transport, walking and cycling routes to encourage people to 'move greener'. Hackney's Mayor, Jules Pipe, led a four year campaign for these improvements. They will form a key part of the borough's Olympic legacy and are vital part of the economic regeneration of Hackney.

Four new London Overground stations were opened in April 2010: Dalston Junction, Haggerston, Hoxton and Shoreditch High Street stations - and a new tube-frequency style service has been introduced. A new £50 million rail line from Dalston Junction to Canonbury and Highbury and Islington was opened on 28 February 2011.
