Haggerston Park
Haggerston Park is situated in the south west corner of Hackney and is bordered by Queensbridge Road, Hackney Road and Goldsmith's Row. The park was developed in two phases - the previously industrial northern half of the site became a public park in the late 1950s and the southern half of the park was fully developed for public use in the 1980s.
The park was awarded a Green Flag award in 2011. The Green Flag Award Scheme recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country. Hackney currently has thirteen Green Flags - one of the highest totals in London.
The park now offers a variety of facilties providing opportunities for a range of formal and informal recreation, and nature conservation.
What's on in Haggerston Park
Once again Parks for Life will be bringing a host of activities to Hackney's parks this summer including yoga, walking, aerobics, football, cricket plus lots more. To see what's going on in your local park visit What's on in Hackney's Parks. To see images from the BMX track and the Haggerston Parks for life see our Flickr slideshow.
BMX track
The BMX track is now open. It is accessible whenever the park is open and is free to use. If you would like to learn how to ride the track, Hackney BMX Club will be running coaching sessions later in the year. The sessions now take place every Sunday, 10am - 12noon. Orchard and food growing space

The Haggerston Park Community Orchard and Food Growing Garden is slowly taking shape. An old fence has been removed, the ground has been cleared and prepared and 200 plants have been planted. So far 180 volunteers have helped prepare the ground, dig holes, fill holes, mulch, turn compost, put up fencing and plant edible plants.
Play Area improvements
Repairs to the play area are now complete, and it is open again. Rubber matting has been added to the hills to make them stronger, and the wooden play structure has been re-built. We have also repaired the surface under the ping pong table and replaced the ping pong net.
Pond
We recently repaired the pond, removing the old liner, redigging the hole, replacing the liner and adding new clay. In early December Fire Fighters from Bethnal Green Fire Station helped us refill the pond, whilst volunteers from City Year cleared the edge of the pond of rocks. A big thank you to everyone who helped out. We hope to plant the pond in Spring with the help of students from Sebright School.
