Smokefree Hackney

Hackney goes smokefree
On Sunday 1 July 2007 virtually all enclosed or substantially enclosed workplaces and public places in Hackney became smokefree by law as part of the Government’s Smokefree England legislation. In preparation for this change, the Environmental Health team worked with internal and external colleagues to ensure that Hackney was ready to go smokefree.
The team worked with buinesses, community and buisness organisations, and City and Hackney teaching Primary care Trust Stop Smoking Services to ensure that Hackney went smoke free and to ensure smokers could access support to help them quit.
Business and premises owners who need no smoking signs can contact environmental health on 020 8356 4911. Guidance for buisness is also available from environmental health or by clicking on the document links on this page.
Anyone wishing to report smoking in a smoke free place can call envoronmental health on 020 8356 4911.
Support to quit smoking is available via your local GP or community pharmacist, co-ordinated by City and Hackney teaching Primary Care Trust. Comprehensive stop smoking support is also available through a specialist service which can be accessed by calling 0800 169 1943.
