Horticultural Standards
Hackney’s Parks Service has achieved a prestigious Green Flag award for Clissold Park. The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by the Civic Trust, is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.
Hackney’s Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure, Cllr Nargis Khan, said ‘Clissold Park was recognised by Green Flag for being welcoming, safe and well looked after with the strong involvement of local people. This is a significant achievement for all of the people who help make Clissold Park a special place to visit in the borough. Getting this award is evidence of the ever rising quality of our parks and has been achieved through the dedication of local people, the Park User Group and staff in Hackney Parks Service.’
The Green Flag award recognises high quality green spaces with excellent environmental standards, and eligible parks must have a five year management plan.
To achieve the required standard, there are eight criteria which Green Flag Award judges assess:
‘A welcoming place; healthy, safe and secure; well maintained and clean; sustainability; conservation and heritage; community involvement; marketing; and management’
