Deposit Bond Scheme
The Council is currently looking to work in partnership with established, reliable agents and private landlords in and around the borough with properties available to let on an Assured Shorthold Tenancy basis, as part of the Deposit Bond Scheme.
Through this scheme the Council will introduce landlords to prospective tenants and provide them with a deposit guarantee agreement, which can be claimed against at the end of the tenancy. Agreements signed will be between the landlord and tenant, with the Council advising tenants to agree to tenancies at Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates.

Landlord Accreditation Scheme

The council is affiliated to the London Landlord Accreditation Scheme, which encourages good practice and development of private sector management skills. The training and information provided by the scheme provides an effective means for improving conditions for people living in the private sector. The schemes administration is currently managed by Camden Council. |
The scheme provides many benefits:
- improved and up to date knowledge of the key issues of property management and landlord-tenant legislation
- comprehensive reference material covering all aspects of private sector letting
- discount and preferential consideration opportunities with insurance companies, banks, building societies, building materials suppliers, etc
- improved access to local authority services including help-lines for housing advice, housing benefit advice, etc
- integration with existing borough accreditation schemes
- increased confidence that their business is working correctly

Landlords Forum
The Landlords' Forum provides an opportunity for landlords to meet on a quarterly basis with the council.
The forum's basic aims are:
- to promote good quality accommodation in the borough
- to provide an effective arena for landlords and tenants to share their experiences of letting accommodation with each other and with the Council
- to increase awareness of changes in legislation and procedures
- to allow the council to consult landlords on new policies
- to encourage good practice

Local Housing Allowance
New private tenant claims for Housing Benefit received on or after 7 April 2008
From 7 April 2008, for some private tenants who make new claims for Housing Benefit, or for existing tenants who change address or have a break in their claim of one week or more, their claims for Housing Benefit will be calculated under a new scheme known as the Local Housing Allowance (LHA).
