Illegal Vehicle Repairs and Sales on Public Highways
Some mechanics and businesses use the public highway as an extension of their garages and for car sales.
This can cause nuisance to local residents and takes up valuable car parking spaces. Repairing vehicles on the street can also look unsightly, lead to damage of the local environment and present a danger to passers-by.

How we manage illegal vehicle repairs and sales
It is an offence to carry out repairs or improvements on a motor vehicle on a public highway for commercial purposes. Offenders can be prosecuted or issued with £100 penalty fines.
Officers will investigate reports of illegal car repairs or sales, to determine whether it causes annoyance, or is part of a business illegally operating on the public highway.
