Mayor Jules Pipe welcomed the announcement that seven of Hackney’s parks had achieved the coveted Green Flag status , saying: ‘These awards underlines the Councils commitment to maintain and improve the Borough’s green spaces. These parks are the lungs of Hackney and go along way to improving the wellbeing of those who live, work and visit in Hackney.’ More info

Mayor Jules Pipe celebrated the handover to London as an official host city. He said: ‘I’m delighted so many residents came out to celebrate together London becoming the official host city of the 2012 Games. Hackney is at the heart of where the Games will happen and my focus is now, more than ever, firmly fixed on maximising the benefits for our residents.’ More info

Mayor welcomes Paralympic Games to Hackney

The Mayor was joined by over 500 people in the Town Hall Square to celebrate the handover of the Paralympic Games, at a free event put on by the Council. The Mayor was joined by Minister for Skills David Lammy MP during a day showcasing disability culture and sports in which there were performances from musicians plus dancers and a chance to access advice about disability services from a number of stalls providing information.
