The website navigation is broken down into the following areas:
The Council Services area is made up of 11 different sections listed below.

Each of these sections are aaccessible from the left hand navigation of the site. These main section areas lead through to content pages relating to the 500 or so e-enabled services the Council and its partners provide.
Site Wide Features
There are a number of features that appear as standard at the top of every page of the site.

You can return to the homepage from every page by clicking on the Hackney Council logo which you will find at the top left hand corner of each page. - A-Z
From the A-Z link at the top of each page you can access our A-Z of services.You can access our A-Z of Community Organisations via the COMIS database. - Search
If you have a problem finding information on the web site via the navigation or the A-Z, please use the site search function. - Printer Friendly
If you wish to print off information from pages of the web site please use the 'printer friendly' version. To return please go 'back to the site'. - Frequently Asked Questions
From a link at the top of every page you can access all our Frequently Asked Questions.
Content Pages
On each content page you can access information relating to a particular service. This information will appear in the central column of the page. Any additional information is located in the right hand column where appropriate - not all pages have them in which case the page will flow across the whole content area. The following elements are available on our content pages.

In the right hand column of each page you can access any pages directly linked to the service. - Downloads and Documents
In the right hand column of each page and also within the general body text you will find links to Word/PDF/Excel and other documents. If you are unable read these documents you can download free viewer plug-ins to assist you. - See Also
In the right hand column of each page you can access any internal or external links that may be linked to the service - Online Forms
At the top of the page you can access an interactive electronic form to contact us about a service. Alternatively you can access all our Online Forms from one area.
Speech Enabling Our Website
Browsealoud-Screenreader
This website is now speech-enabled, which means that you can download free software onto your personal computer and have the site read aloud to you.
The free software is called Browsealoud.
Browsealoud is a Windows browser plug-in designed for use with Internet Explorer 4 upwards or Netscape Navigator. It should be noted that Safari and some other browsers have screenreader features built in.
If you install the Browsealoud plugin onto your PC, you can have the web pages on the Hackney Council website read to you (and other sites that are speech-enabled).

Important information for people who do not use a mouse
Browsealoud is a product which has been designed to be used primarily by mouse movements. If you do not use a mouse, or are unable to use a mouse, you should enable mousekeys. To do this -
- open the control panelselect accessibility options
- select the 'mouse' tab
- switch on mousekeys - you will be able to control the mouse using your numeric keypad
This will allow you to navigate to text on web pages which would normally be inaccessible using the keyboard. You can change Browsealoud settings by double clicking on the Browsealoud icon in the system tray.
