How can I get involved in scrutiny?
Can I attend Scrutiny Meetings?
As with Council and Cabinet meetings, members of the public are welcome to attend Scrutiny meetings as observers. If confidential information is being discussed, you will be asked to leave the room for the duration of that item.
Can I see the papers for Scrutiny meetings?
All papers for scrutiny meetings are available to the public, except those containing confidential information. Agendas and supporting papers for all public meetings of the Council are accessible on the Council’s website at: Committee Reports or by contacting the Overview and Scrutiny Team on 020 8356 3441. Papers will normally be available 5 working days before a meeting is due to be held.
The Overview and Scrutiny Annual report is produced each year to give details of the investigations that Scrutiny has carried out over the course of the municipal year. A copy of this can be obtained by contacting the Overview and Scrutiny Team on the telephone number given above.
What if one of the investigations affects me personally?
The future work programme for each Scrutiny Commission is available by contacting the Overview and Scrutiny Team.
If you have a specific interest in an area of investigation you may be able to participate in the meeting at the discretion of the Chair. Please contact a member of the Overview and Scrutiny Team for more information.
If there is an area of the Council's work that you feel would benefit from a Scrutiny investigation, please contact your local Councillor who will take your comments into account. You can write to your Councillor at HackneyTown Hall, or attend a surgery. Details of surgery times are available on the website in the Councillors A - Z or by contacting the Overview and Scrutiny Team.
