Background
As one of five boroughs to host the London Olympic and Paralympics Games in 2012, Hackney is at the forefront of momentous change. Hackney Museum and Hackney Archives are recording the changes to local people's lives - creating a lasting legacy for future generations to experience and understand.
The Olympic and Paralympic Games is set to touch the lives of Hackney's communities and transform the culture of the borough. Our community heritage project is about capturing the many voices of Hackney's hugely diverse communities by working with community groups, local artists and individuals to produce photographic, digital media, written, and audio based records of the changes and people's responses to them.
These records will be shown in a special exhibition in 2012 and will form a key part of Hackney's Museum and Archive collections as a snapshot of a crucial period in history for Hackney, seen through the eyes of local people.
Mapping the Change is a Heritage Lottery funded project. Hackney Museum is working in partnership with Vestry House Museum, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives.
