Dalston Voices
28 September 2010 to 22 January 2011

Working with photographer Arnau Oriol Sanchez we captured photographs of Dalston as it changes in front of our very eyes. There are also old photographs from Hackney Archives. Ridley Market features big in this exhibition as well as written and spoken memories of Dalston people, some going back to before World War II plus work by Alexandra Blum and Miyuki Kasahara.
Come and see people's comments on Dalston today, listen to the memories and write your own thoughts about the future of Dalston.
Capture Hackney
5 October to 11 December, 2010
Winners of our photographic competition in collaboration with Shoot Experience are displayed in the museum showing a rich slice of life in Hackney as it changes in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.

Comic Strips and Animations
Wednesday 27 July and 3, 10, 17 and 24 August, 2 - 4pm. Drop in
Artists Mark Long and Mark Oliver bring animation to life with their Mapping the Change zoetrope. Come along and make a comic strip. Your moving images will be captured on film and emailed to you so you can take home a piece of the action. For more info got to The Hackney Animator
Make a toy theatre
Thursday 28 July and 4, 11, 18 and 25 August, 2 - 4pm. Drop in
Artists, Barbara Beyer and Andrea Morreau celebrate Hackney by creating miniature toy theatre. Come along and make your own characters and props inspired by your favourite people, pets and the objects you treasure. Step into the limelight in this fun activity for all the family.
Summer 2011 at Wilton Estate
Friday 5 August, Saturday 6, 13 and Sunday 7, 14 August, 2 - 4pm
Working with artist Alex Zika, families at the Wilton Estate took part in this fun and exciting art activity exploring the past, present and future of Hackney. They created a range of curious miniature landscapes in jars and glasses and magnificent, large scale paper cut outs of real and imaginary Hackney views. The final installation turned the memories and dreams of Hackney into wonderful and unique art works.
Mammoths to Medals
Join performer John Kirk on a time travelling adventure; full of audience participation, fun facts and exciting stories. Beginning from the days when mammoths roamed our Hackney streets to our Olympic present, this assembly will excite and inspire your children, making them proud to live in Hackney.

The Mapping the Change school workshops took place at Berger and St Dominic's primary schools.
Portavilion at Gillett Square

Mapping the Change run a photobooth at Gillett Square capturing the diverse faces of Dalston. We invited local residents and visitors to interact with Hackney Museum's handling collection of objects, look at historical photographs of Dalston and share their views. Mapping the Change art workshops
Mapping the Change artist Sophie Rigg worked with families and toddlers at Gainsborough Children Centre, Hackney Wick during July 2010. Participants created art in response to the major changes taking place in the area.
Mapping the Change Family Extravaganza
Every Wednesday and Thursday in August 2 - 4pm
Mapping the Change sets out to record how Hackney changes and develops in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics. Work with artists Yasmeem Al Awadi and Miyuki Kasahara to create pieces of art for the Museum's collection and 2012 exhibition.
Victoria Park Walk
