Move by Bus
Why you should move by bus
Buses are a great way to get around and are an excellent mode of transport for people who live and work in Hackney. Hackney is one of the best served London boroughs for buses – nine of the top twenty bus routes travel through the borough – there are 46 day and 22 night buses to choose from.
A number of bus priority measures have been introduced in the borough including bus lanes and CCTV enforcement and rephrasing of traffic lights to give more time to buses.
In 2006, 86 per cent of households in Great Britain lived within 6 minutes walk of a bus stop.
Buses can help to alleviate congestion, reduce carbon emissions, and are typically more fuel efficient per passenger mile than cars. Every full double-decker bus takes 40 cars off the road. Less cars on the road means buses can move faster and more reliably.
You can get cheap fares with your Oyster card, go to the Oyster Card section of the Transport for London website for more information.
