Why you should move by train

Trains can be the quickest way to travel long distances, the average train or tube journey in London is currently faster than by car. There are 12 train stations to get you in and out of Hackney, ten in the borough and two on the edge of the borough. Trains provide you with the opportunity to relax on your way to and from work.

Safety at Hackney’s stations is being improved and the frequency of trains is being increased

The East London Line extension will link Hackney directly to Central London and the tube network. The new stations in the borough are due to open in summer 2010. More information on the East London Line extension can be found on the Transport in Hackney page.

Trains are more energy efficient than road transport with significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions per kilometre travelled.  Trains are also more space effective, with four railway lines able to fit into one three-lane motorway. Trains alleviate congestion and have a considerably smaller impact on air quality and noise levels than other forms of motorised transport. With the Overground and Underground trains widely accessible in London, journeys of over 10 miles can be made quickly and easily.

You can get cheap fares with your Oyster card, go to the Oyster Card section of the Transport for London website for more information.
