9-15 November is National Adoption Week 2009. Below you'll find information about an event for people in Hackney who are thinking of adopting a child, and the kind of adoptive families that we are currently looking for.
Adoption information event
If you are thinking about adopting, come along to an information event on Thursday 12 November, 6-8pm.
The event takes place at:

The event will be a fun, informal evening where adoptive parents and members of our Adoption Team will be there to answer your questions about adoption, the children needing a family and the support that's available to you.
About adopting in Hackney
There are an estimated 4,000 children across the UK needing adoption every year.
In Hackney, we are currently looking for adoptive families for children of black, Asian and dual heritage. Our children need adoptive parents who can closely reflect and promote their ethnic and cultural background and give them a secure and loving home.
You don’t have to live in borough to adopt a Hackney child. We welcome applicants from neighbouring boroughs and counties and from all communities, particularly the black and minority ethnic community. What we really need are people who can offer care and love. People who can transform the lives of one or more of these children, giving them the chance to on to thrive.
Councillor Rita Krishna, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said “Every child is special and deserves to grow up in a loving, secure family. The process for becoming an adoptive parent is rigorous,and that is as it should be. But please don’t think we’ll turn you down because you’re over 40, for example, single, or don’t own your own home.
Initially, we are simply asking people to come forward and find out more about adoption. If you think you might have what it takes, please get in touch.”
