Play areas

Play is an important part of every child's development and essential both to their health and happiness. This is reflected in the Hackney Play Strategy 2007 to 2012 (PDF 1.3MB), where objectives include improving the access that local children have to new and improved play environments.

Two new play areas opened up in Hackney's Parks in 2011. The Clissold Park play area has been completely revamped as part of the Clissold Park Restoration Project and includes a wheels park for those keen to practice their skating and bmx skills.

The new play area in clapton Common was completed in spring 2011. The facility provides exciting, challenging play oppotuniteis for both under and over fives. For more information and a photo of the play area see Clapton Common play area

Pathfinder

In 2008, The London Borough of Hackney was awarded £2.6 million over 3 years by the Department of Children, Schools, and Families (DCSF) to upgrade four of its adventure playgrounds and to develop 28 public play spaces across the borough. This included improvements to Clapton Square, Broadway Market Green, Shoreditch Park, Hackney DownsSpringfield Park and Butterfield Green. The Play Pathfinder Programme contributed an average of £50,000 to each play space and was matched by other funding sources at some sites.
