Hackney Central Area Action Plan

The Hackney Central Area Action Plan is a comprehensive strategy for co-ordinated development and design that reflects local aspirations for the future of the area. It is a guide to balanced development and provides confidence and certainty to developers and other public sector bodies.  

The overall purpose of the AAP is to establish the basis for shaping the regeneration of the area and to ensure the continued role of Hackney Central as a District Town Centre whilst respecting its unique character. The AAP has a strong focus on implementation and forms a statutory component of the Local Development Framework

Current stage - Examination of the Hackney Central Area Action Plan (Submission Document) 

Background

The Hackney Central Phase 1 AAP was adopted by Council as interim guidance in November 2009 following extensive consultation with the community and stakeholders. The AAP now needs to go through the formal adoption process to become a Development Plan Document (DPD) in the Council's LDF. In July 2011, Cabinet approved the 'Publication' of the AAP (and supporting documents).

Public representations were invited within a 6 week period from Wednesday 21 September until Thursday 3 November on the soundness and legal compliance of the AAP. The number of representations that were received and a summary of the main issues raised is provided in the 'Statement of Representations' supporting document (see below).

The Council also sought confirmation from the Greater London Authority (GLA) on this conformity as part of Regulation 29.

Submission and Examination

The AAP and supporting documents were submitted to the Secretary of State as part of Regulation 30 on the 29 February 2012. These documents are now subject to an examination in public to determine their soundness and legal compliance by Inspector Paul Clark.

If you or your organisation made a representation during regulation 27 'Publication', you will be kept informed as the AAP proceeds to public hearing (by the independant Programme Co-ordinator).

Hackney's Local Development Scheme

As a result of submitting the Hackney Central Area Action Plan, the timeline for the AAP in Hackney's Local Development Scheme has now been superseded. The anticipated timeline is outlined below. This will be revised as more details of the examination are confirmed by the planning inspector.
