Visiting Hackney Archives

The Hackney Archives search room is open for research and consultation of records during the following hours -

  • Tuesdays: 9.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 8pm
  • Wednesdays, Thursdays: 9.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm
  • Fridays: 9.30am to 1pm

You do not need to make an appointment, although we recommend that you contact us before your visit to check that we have the sources relevant to your research.

Before visiting please download and read the searchroom guidelines from the box on the right-hand of this page. You will need to bring a pencil with you, as pens are not permitted in the searchroom. We also ask visitors to leave all bags and coats in a locker during their visit.

The searchroom has microfilm and microfiche readers for consulting old newspapers and some documents which have been filmed to preserve the originals. In addition to this, there are a number of computer terminals for consulting our online catalogue as well as the photograph database.
