Neighbourhood Watch

You can make a difference where you live by joining a community or Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

There are around 50 schemes operating in Hackney, and they aim to encourage members of the local community to ‘get to know’ and ‘look out’ for each other, in order to build social cohesion and reduce crime.

Schemes help lessen people’s anxieties about crime, strengthen links with the police and the borough council and offer reduced insurance premiums to members. Typically, schemes are led by a coordinator and comprise a committee of local residents who meet regularly to identify crime related problems and examine what action can be taken.

Hackney Neighbourhood Watch Association supports the various neighbourhood watch schemes co-ordinators and offers communication between co-ordinators, an exchange of ideas, as well as addressing training issues and helping to attract sponsorship.
