Capture Hackney

A unique photographic treasure hunt in the heart of Hackney

Open to all, this is your chance to discover Hackney’s cultural highlights, show off your photographic skills and win fantastic prizes, including digital cameras.

Using the theme ‘Holiday in Hackney’, we are challenging you to solve our clues in a unique photographic treasure hunt. Along the way you’ll discover the wide selection of culture that Hackney has to offer. By foot, bike or bus, use the Capture Hackney map and clues to guide you (see the downloads box on the right). You can also pick up a copy at points across the borough including libraries, leisure centres, Hackney Museum and Council reception areas.

You don’t need to be a professional photographer – we want as many residents to take part as possible and would urge you to be as creative as you can.

This event is ideal for families looking for a fun day out, young people and their friends, older people or visitors to the borough. We are also encouraging teachers to involve their pupils in the project.

To enter the competition

Once you have solved the clues and ‘captured’ the solutions, you can register and upload your photographs at Shoot Experience in three easy steps.

The deadline for submitting photos is 6pm on Friday 31 October. The judging panel will then shortlist the finalists alongside readers of Hackney Today who will be able to take part in a special ‘Reader’s Choice’ category. Winners will see their work displayed in a special exhibition at Hackney Museum this winter.

Capture Hackney is run in partnership between the Council’s Cultural Development Team and Shoreditch based photography experts, Shoot Experience.
