Voluntary and community organisations are invited to apply for the for this year’s voluntary sector grants, worth a total of £2.46 million, which are being administered by Hackney Council’s Community Partnerships team.

Councillor Nargis Khan, Cabinet Member for Community Services and the lead member for the Hackney Funding Programme, said: “This programme will continue to be delivered in partnership with other funding organisations to support community activity in the borough.  The new criteria reflects Hackney’s new ten year Community Strategy and its ambition to support community development in Hackney".”

The Hackney Funding Programme will support activities and services under these seven headings:

Objective 1 - Reduce poverty by supporting residents into sustainable employment, and promoting employment opportunities.

Objective 2 - Help residents to become better qualified and raise educational aspirations.  Ensure the educational improvement of Hackney’s children and young people is excellent.

Objective 3 - Promote health and wellbeing for all and support independent living.

Objective 4 - Make the borough safer, and help people to feel safe in Hackney.

Objective 5 - Promote mixed communities in well-designed neighbourhoods, where people can access high quality, affordable housing.

Objective 6 - Be a sustainable community, where all citizens take pride in and take care of Hackney and its environment, for future generations.

Objective 7 - To actively engage Hackney residents in volunteering opportunities.
