LDF - Core Strategy Preferred Policy Option
Update September 2008
The statutory public consultation on the Core Strategy Preferred Policy Options ran from 14 April to 2 June 2008. In that time the Council received over 800 representations covering a range of themes and issues. These ranged from comments on broad direction and aims of the document to detailed comments about individual options.
The Policy and Strategy team are currently analysing the responses and will report to the Council’s Cabinet in the near future. Following this, a revised Core Strategy – the ‘Submission’ version, will be submitted for decision by the Council and if approved will be submitted to Government in Spring 2009. The ‘Submission’ version will be subject to examination in public by an independent Inspector in Autumn 2009.
Key options proposed in the document: -
- Promote major mixed use development and growth in our town centres.
- Renew our housing estates so that they create new neighbourhoods.
- Ensure high quality design in all our new buildings and public places.
- Address climate change at a local level.
- Protect existing housing and provide land to deliver more.
- Ensure adequate provision of affordable homes.
- Provide larger homes for families.
- Protect and create job opportunities.
- Protect existing open space and encourage new spaces for outside recreation.
The final Core Strategy will have a vital day-to-day function. It will be used as the basis for determining planning applications in the borough.
