Food Business - Health Promotion
The Environmental Health Team provides advice and information to food businesses and the public in the local area to ensure that all food supplied is wholesome and produced in a clean, hygienic manner. We also provide advice on nutrition and healthy eating; and work with the Health Protection Agency and Primary Care Trust to promote good eating habits.
The Environmental Health Team works with the Learning Trust to help ensure school meals in Hackney meet the required standards.
The Environmental Health Team works with Social Services to ensure that the supply of Meals on Wheels meets the required standards.
Good hygiene is important to ensure that the food you serve is safe to eat. It also makes good business sense because good hygiene prevents food poisoning and protects your reputation with customers.
The Council has a duty to enforce food hygiene legislation in premises throughout the Borough, but an equally important part of our work relates to health promotion through the provision of advice and support to businesses.
The Food Standards Agency is the body, which provides definitive advice on food hygiene to businesses and the public.
