Road markings and signs
The Traffic & Transportation Team is responsible for the erection of all new traffic signs and new road markings on the public highway.

For further information on the relevant rules and regulations associated with each of the types of lines and signs please go to the Highway Code website which gives examples of the lines in normal use and their associated rules.
All lines on the highway must be authorised by Hackney Council. Persons found marking the highway themselves are liable for prosecution for defacing the public highway.
The maintenance of existing traffic signs and white road markings only is looked after by our Street Furniture Team within Highways & Engineering. They can arrange for the replacement of missing or damaged signs and are also responsible for cleaning them. They can be contacted on 020 8356 2897 or you can complete the above form.
Please note that all timeplate signs, yellow lines and parking bays are maintained by our Parking Services.
