There are three types of Co-optee on the Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission. These are:

  • Edith Akinnawonu - Co-optee (Parent Governor Representative - with voting rights)
  • Saleh Ahmed - Co-optee (Parent Govenor Representative - with voting rights)

Co-opted organisations selected by Hackney Council:

  • Ralph Bergmann – Co-optee (Avigdor School/Orthodox Jewish Community - with voting rights)
  • Mary Ludlow – Co-optee (Free Church Federal Council - non-voting member)
  • Mohamed Zeena – Co-optee (North London Muslim Association - non-voting member)

  • Lisa Neidich – Co-optee (Hackney School Governors Association – non-voting member)

The Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission’s remit includes scrutinising the work of the Children and Young People’s Services Directorate and working closely with the Learning Trust, a not for profit organisation, which has a contract with the Council to provide Education services until 2012.

Scrutiny Commissions dealing with education matters are required by the Local Government Act 2000 to have a minimum of four external voting representatives. These are made up of one Church of England representative, one Roman Catholic Church representative, and two parent-governor representatives.
