Cabinet 2008-09

The Mayor (Jules Pipe) is responsible for the overall corporate strategy, financial management, and delivery of services by the Council.  He appoints a Cabinet to support him in making decisions on how our services are delivered. More on the Mayor

Below is a list of the current Cabinet, and a summary of their portfolios (areas of responsibility).

	Deputy Mayor Councillor Jamie Carswell: Lead responsibility for finance, issues relating to Hackney Homes, IT issues, and housing strategy. Also responsible for supporting the Mayor and deputising in his absence.
	Customer and Corporate Services and Environmental Sustainability Councillor Sophie Linden: Lead responsibility for customer care, legal services, ethical governance, human resources, and environmental sustainability.*
	Community Services Councillor Nargis Khan Lead responsibility for libraries, parks, and leisure services, adult and community social services, health, and voluntary sector issues.
	Children's Services Councillor Rita Krishna Lead responsibility for all issues relating to children and young people, including education, children’s social services and the youth service.
	Neighbourhoods Councillor Alan Laing Lead responsibility for neighbourhood renewal, waste management, recycling, street scene and highway infrastructure, environmental health and trading standards, parking, traffic management, and crime and community safety.
	Regeneration and 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games Councillor Guy Nicholson Lead responsibility for sustainable regeneration, promoting investment and economic development, planning and transport and maximising the opportunities presented by 2012.

The Mayor has also appointed four Cabinet Advisers to work alongside the Cabinet:

	Equalities Councillor Sally Mulready: Responsibility for equalities issues.
	Crime & Community Safety Councillor Julius Nkafu: Responsibility for crime and community safety issues.
	Public Health Councillor Sharon Patrick: Responsibility for public health issues, and partnership work with the PCT and NHS.

* Note: Cllr Linden is covering the Customer & Corporate Services portfolio for a period of maternity leave, until September 2008.
