Overview and Scrutiny Board
The Overview and Scrutiny Board is responsible for co-ordinating the Scrutiny function. It makes sure that Scrutiny reviews and investigations are not duplicated, ensures the Commissions work together and that expertise in a given area of work is shared. To help this happen, the Chairs and Vice-Chairs of the Scrutiny Commissions are appointed onto the Overview and Scrutiny Board. The Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board are appointed by the Full Council. The current Membership of the Board can be viewed below.

The Board usually meets on a monthly basis, but can meet more frequently if it needs to consider a Call-in. The Chairs of the Commissions have expertise in their area and so will be well placed to make an informed decision on hearing the evidence of a Called-in decision. The Board may also consider corporate issues as necessary, such as monitoring major plans and strategies, or requesting updates from Cabinet Members on their areas of work.
If certain issues need to be considered in greater detail, the Board can set up a specific ad hoc commission to carry out this work.
