London Youth Games

The 2008 Games culminated at the Finals Weekend at Crystal Palace on 5^th and 6^th July.  Over 270 young people represented Hackney at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games and Hackney finished 32^nd out of 33 boroughs.  

Our key successes at the Games included -

• Girls Basketball Team finishing 3^rd
• Disability Football Girls Team finishing 4^th
• Gymnastics Girls Team finishing 4^th
• Weightlifting Team finishing 4^th

Some key sports development successes were -

• Disability Athletics Boys team moving up 12 places from 2007 Games
• Sportshall Athletics team moving up 12 places
• Mini Football team moving up 12 places
• Athletics moving up 11 places

In total Hackney entered 40 sports – 8 mini games (primary school) and 32 main games.  Some new sports entered this year included -

• Boys Volleyball – not entered in the previous 3 years and finished 9^th
• Girls Rugby
• Disability Swimming Boys Team
