2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

REAP - £1m for Benefits for Hackney's 'Olympic' Neighbourhoods

REAP, for Recreation and Environmental Action Programme, is money from the London Development Agency (LDA) to improve green, open space in Hackney Wick and Kings Park wards, the areas in the borough closest to where the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be staged in 2012.

Hackney asked people and organisations who live and work in Wick and King’s Park wards for their ideas on how the REAP money can be spent.

Hackney’s Lead for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Cllr Guy Nicholson, said; “REAP is an early benefit from the Games for Hackney’s ‘Olympic’ neighbourhoods.  The fund can be spent on improving open, green spaces as well as sport and leisure activities in Wick and Kings Park."

The Council received over 50 ideas for REAP projects and over twenty projects are now going ahead.

REAP projects will improve some of the area’s smaller open, green spaces that are not currently used or developed.  Projects ideas received include creating a new children’s playground, making a community garden and getting new equipment for local sports and outdoor activity.

The Council is aiming for all projects to be complete by the end of 2008.
