Publication Scheme

Introduction

Hackney Council already makes a large amount of information available to its citizens in an open and friendly way. Information can be obtained through its website, leaflets and many other publications. The Council wants Hackney's residents to have access to all the information they need in order that they can become involved in the Council's work.

What is a publication Scheme?

Hackney Council's Publication Scheme (which is based on the Model Publication Scheme) provides a guide to the information routinely made available to the public.

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), the Council is required to make information available to the public as part of its normal business activities.

Publication schemes have to specify:

  • The classes of information which each authority publishes or intends to publish
  • How it publishes the information (or how it intends to do so)
  • Whether information is provided free or for a charge

The scheme commits Hackney Council:
  • To publish or otherwise make available, information, including environmental information, which is held by the Council and falls within the classifications shown on the right of this screen
  • To specify the information which is held by the Council and falls within the classifications shown on the right of this screen
  • To publish or otherwise make available, information in line with the statements contained within this scheme
  • To produce and publish the methods by which the specific information is made available so that it can be easily identified and accessed by members of the public
  • To review and update on a regular basis the information the Council makes available under this scheme
  • To produce a schedule of any fees charged for access to information which is made available
  • To make this publication scheme available to the public

The classes of information will not generally include:

  • Information which is prevented from being disclosed by law, or exempt under the Freedom of Information Act, or is otherwise protected from disclosure
  • Information in draft form
  • Information that's no longer readily available or difficult to access as it's contained in archived files

There may be a charge if a large volume of printed material is required. You will be told about any photocopying charges at the time of your request.
