REAP FAQs

What is being done with the money the Council and the London Development Agency have for improving green spaces near the Olympic Park site?

Community groups in Hackney have £1million to improve green open spaces and for sports and leisure activities, thanks to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to Hackney.

The Recreation and Environment Action Programme (REAP) fund is a result of the 2012 negotiations between the London Development Agency (LDA) and Hackney Council.

The money is specifically for local projects created by local residents.  It has been shared out between 24 projects in the Wick and King’s Park wards, areas of these two neighbourhoods sit within the Olympic Park itself.

REAP money is being spent on neighbourhood projects including creating a new children’s playground, landscaping and buying new sports equipment.  It is also funding community gardens, the Boulder art project on Mabley Green and more.

REAP represents a real and tangible benefit from the 2012 Games for the residents closest to the Olympic Park.

REAP projects are being developed now.
