Reclaim Social Work
“Hackney has torn up the rulebook on how to organise Social Work Teams”
Community Care magazine, 17 July 2008
We now have 24 social work units up and running and a recent external case file audit identified that practice in social work units was generally of a very high standard with roles/responsibilities of SWU members clearly defined in respect of work with children and their families, and a strong ethos of working together as a team around the child, and collaboratively with other agencies.
Our aim is to continue to improve the service we offer to Hackney’s children and young people and to reduce the number children in care by providing intensive and high quality therapeutic and practical support for families. Further information about the model, and the thoughts and experiences of the people within the units, can be found in the links on the right.
We know that Social work is a complex task and believe that this has been largely forgotten. Social workers need good support, freedom to practise at a high level and a range of intellectual abilities and emotional resilience. Hackney is working with the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC), to make sure that the next generation of Social Workers have the necessary tools and experience to manage the role to a high level.
If this sounds interesting then we want to hear from you if – you are a graduate with a 2:1; you hold a C in GSCE Maths or English; you are not currently employed to work directly with Children or Young People and you are enrolled on a Masters course in Social Work (or are able to enrol) and due to start in the next few months.
To apply, submit a CV and supporting statement - summarising why you want to join us to Reclaim Social Work. If successful, we will provide you with financial assistance, excellent support and training to equip you with the toolkit you need to be an excellent Social Worker. Click here to apply
