Reduce your food waste over the Jubilee weekend
The Council will not be running extra collections after the bank holiday weekend, recycling collections will take place at your normal collection time and day. if you have extra recycling you can take it to one of the 72 bring sites located around the borough or to the recycling centre in Islington. Details of your nearest bring site can be found in the 'Do it Now' section on the right.
If you are holding a street party it may be best to agree to share responsibility for recycling and use the combined capacity of your recycling boxes or bags.
The best thing you can do for your party is to plan your menu to avoid as much waste as possible by not buying too much, setting sensible portion sizes and avoiding products with lots of packaging. Love Food Hate Waste have some great tips on cutting down on waste as well as recipes suitable for parties at www.lovefoodhatewaste.com

Green space gets facelift
Residents of Linzell Estate had their local community green space spruced up as part of the Transform programme, which aims to regenerate areas of neglected land into green areas.
The dedicated team of Hackney Homes staff, Groundwork staff, residents and volunteers from the BSix College, worked for over six months to prepare the area and sow more than 300 forest plants for the community to enjoy.
The project, initiated by the Linzell Tenants Residents Association (TRA), was awarded £12,000 funding from London 2012 Changing Places Transform initiative and Hackney Homes.
TRA Chair Jean Cooper thanked the Tenants Association members and the Council for their support. She said: "Without the Tenant Association members' support, this project would have never happened. We have truly started something special for future generations to enjoy and I hope that the tenants of Linzell Estate get the most out of it."
Resident organiser Helen Wilson added: "On this project we have tried to provide a relaxing, usable area for residents of all ages and a valuable learning and wildlife site. The space is not only a garden, it is a natural forest providing sustainable as well as edible plants such as ferns, herbs, asparagus, artichokes, alliums, strawberry plants and more."
"The end result is fantastic and I hope residents take ownership of it and reap the benefits that this site can provide."
Council launches food waste recycling scheme

Thousands of residents will receive visits in the coming weeks as part of a campaign to help more people recycle food waste in Hackney.
Council staff recently began travelling round the borough handing out a six month supply of free compostable bin liners, and replacing broken or unused kitchen caddies with more sturdy models.
The new blue bins, which hold food waste, are clean and secure and collected weekly with other recycling.
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: "Recycling more of our food waste can help lower the amount of greenhouse gases created at landfills and can help reduce climate change. It will also help save local taxpayers money, as it currently costs around £2 million a year to get rid of food waste in Hackney.
"With the free liners and new caddies, residents will be able to see how simple it is to take part in food recycling."
Food waste recycling helps to make Hackney a greener borough and produces 200 tonnes of compost each year, which is used by local parks, gardens and community groups.
In total 62,000 homes will be visited as part of the drive, and residents will be shown how to use the blue bins, the full range of food that can be recycled in them, and given the free liners.
Compostable liners help keep kitchen caddies clean and tidy, and break down easily in the composting process, unlike other plastic bags which shouldn¹t be used in blue bins.

New re-usable recycling bags for residents living on estates and high-rise properties
Residents living on estates and high-rise properties have now been issued with a re-useable recycling bag to assist them with recycling from their flat. The bag should be placed in the kitchen to collect recycling materials then used to transport recycling to the recycling bins and returned to the flat.
Below you'll find a diagram explaining how the process works:
Please note:
- The bag will not be collected from the front door - it is a receptacle to assist with recycling.
- The bag should not to be left outside the front door; if it is, it will be removed.
The bags have been purchased and delivered by external funding through the London Waste and Recycling Board (LWaRB).
