Recyling on estates and high rise properties
All estates and high rise properties have access to general recycling facilities. There are a number of trials taking place on certain estates to determine the best method for collecting recycling from these properties.

Trial A

Residents are supplied with a roll of 26 orange sacks, which are collected from their door. The orange sack is 80 litres in capacity and is collected on a weekly basis.

The recycling facilities on site are either one or two large bins that can have all the recyclable materials put in together.

Trial B

Residents on this trial have a door to door collection. A green heavy duty bag is the receptacle for this scheme and it holds 47 litres of recycling. This bag is collected weekly by the recycling collection crew.

Estates - General (for those estates not participating in any trials)

Residents living on estates and high rise properties that are not participating in the trials are entitled to recycling facilities. Five wheelie bins are fixed in a lockable frame, clearly labelled to accept the following materials:
- Tins & cans
- Paper, newspaper and magazines
- Glass bottles & jars
Each bin holds 240 litres of recycling, and is emptied weekly by the recycling crew.
Recycling frames can be added to new build properties subject to there being space for the bins, and access for the vehicle. On private estates, frames may be added, subject to assessment and approval from the recycling team.
Private apartments
Residents living in private apartments have access to the same facilities as general estates, recycling three colours of glass, paper and magazines, tins and cans.If you are in a private apartment and don't currently have any facilities, please contact us and a member of the team will assess the property and arrange appropriate facilities.
Estates - food waste collections on selected estates

ELCRP collects kitchen scraps door to door on selected estates. The kitchen scraps are composted on site at ELCRP, all compost produced is used back on the estates.
Residents participating in this scheme are given 10 litre green kitchen caddies to collect kitchen scraps in. Residents should place the green caddy outside their front door on their weekly collection day.

Food waste recycling bank trial on 5000 estates and high rise properties
This project will collect kitchen waste from 5000 households on estates and private apartments in Hackney.
Residents are issued with a 10 litre kitchen caddy and compostable liners. Residents then take their kitchen waste to the kitchen waste recycling bin located on site, near existing recycling facilities. The on site food containers will be emptied up to three times a week by the recycling crew. Residents can recycle:

Estates - RSL collections trial

The recycling team and six registered social landlords are carrying out door to door recycling collections on selected estates for a 12 month period, which started 2 July 2007.
Food waste is collected in a 10 litre green kitchen caddy, whilst other recyclables are collected in a 47 litre heavy duty green bag. Residents should place the green bag and the green caddy outside their front door on their weekly collection day.
