Town Centres
On this page you can find information on the regeneration of Hackney's town centres:
Dalston
The combination of the Kingsland Shopping Centre, with its large supermarket, and the bustling Ridley Road Market act as focal points for local communities. The wide range of furniture stores, clothes shops and restaurants in Dalston all reflect the cultural diversity of the borough.
The area is also home to several significant development sites, while transport links have improved considerably with the opening of the London Overground Dalston Junction station, which links to the Tube and provides the area with a north-south connection to the West Croydon, also soon to be expanded by linking Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington.
The town centre is also being extensively redeveloped, with more retail and residential space being created. It has also seen the creation of Gillett Square, a truly flexible urban space that hosts a wide variety of events and festivals.

Hackney Central
In recent years the area has become an impressive cultural, civic and retail centre, featuring the revered Hackney Empire theatre, a high tech library, museum, and gym.
The Narroway, the locally adopted name for the northern end of Mare Street, is the historic high street of the ancient village of Hackney. It has a wide variety of high street and local shops, and boasts a wealth of history to discover at St. Augustine's Tower, dating from the 13th century, and St John-at-Hackney Church, built during the 1790s.
Also emerging is a strong Hackney Central economy, with the development and increase in commercial activity in the city fringe area spreading northwards.
Hackney Central London Overground station also provides rail connections to central London and to Stratford. The area is also well served by over a dozen different bus routes.
