Our action plan for crime
Hackney Council is working with the community, the Police and other organisations to
- reduce crime and disorder in the borough
- tackle its causes.
Hackney has some of the best crime reduction figures in London, and crime has fallen by almost 40% in the last five years.
Below you will find a summary of our key priorities over the next few years. For a more detailed explanation of our approach, you can download our Community Safety Plan (Word Document, 360KB).
Our priorities for 2008-2011
Between 2008-2011, we are prioritising the reduction of the following types of crime:
- serious violent crime (including domestic violence)
- serious acquisitive crime
- hate crime
- youth crime
- anti-social behaviour
- substance misuse
Our approach
In order to achieve sustainable results, we will focus on reducing re-offending, supporting victims, targeted situational prevention and a strong communication strategy. We will:
- reduce re-offending by working with individuals who either offend or who are at risk of offending
- support victims by engaging with individuals and groups who are most at risk of being victimised
- prevent crimes by focusing on areas in which crime or anti-social behaviour is concentrated
- promote strong communities by involving and informing our communities.
