What is domestic violence?

The Government defines domestic violence as "any incident of threatening behavior, violence or abuse psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional between adults who are or have been initmate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality."

Domestic violence can be pattern of abusive behaviour which includes:

emotional/mental abuse
financial abuse
sexual abuse
using children
threats and Intimidation
misuse of power
isolation.

How we can help victims of domestic violence

Hackney Council works with Hackney Homes to provide free, confidential advice for people who are victims of domestic violence. To avail of this service, please call the Domestic Violence and Hate Crime Team on 0800 056 0905 (Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm).
