Car crime

Below you’ll find information on how to reduce your risk of being a victim of car theft.

Keep your car secure

  • Secure your vehicle with an immobiliser, alarm or tracking device and make sure you use them. This is especially relevant if you have an older model.
  • Park in a secure car park – see www.securedcarparks.com for recommendations.

Always take your car keys with you

  • Take care of your car keys. Never leave them in the ignition when the vehicle is unattended (even at home) – always keep them hidden.

Keep valuables out of site

  • Never leave anything on display in your vehicle – not even a handful of loose change.
  • In particular, do not leave a sattelite navigation system (Sat Nav) in the car. Remove your Sat nav and its mounting cradle, and wipe away any sucker marks.
  • When you park, if you have a removable stereo, make sure you remove it and take it with you. Don't leave it in the glove compartment.
