Neighbourhood Wardens
What are Neighbourhood Wardens?
Hackney’s Neighbourhood Wardens work with the police and other council departments to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. They patrol our streets, provide support to residents, report anti-social behaviour and do clean-ups of litter, fly tipping, graffiti and syringes. The wardens also deal with clearing abandoned vehicles and flyposting.
Wardens hope to go the extra mile and build links with all sections of the local community, whether it be attending youth groups, or providing a link for the elderly and vulnerable to other services in Hackney. They are friendly, visible, dedicated to certain neighbourhoods and aim to empower communities to have their say on crime.
As well as playing an important role in making the wards where they operate cleaner, safer, and greener, the wardens want to increase residents’ satisfaction with where they live in Hackney.
There are currently two Neighbourhood Warden services in Hackney, the North East Wardens and the Shoreditch Wardens:
North East Wardens
The North East Wardens cover the following areas:
• New River
• Springfield
• Cazenove
• Hackney Downs
• Leabridge

Shoreditch Wardens
The Shoreditch Wardens cover the following areas:
• Hoxton
• Haggerston
• Queensbridge
• De Beaviour
They are based at the Hackney Council Neighbourhood Office on Orsman Road.
