“Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort”

Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic movement - and a teacher

The Olympic values have inspired The Learning Trust to create a programme called Schools at the Heart. The Learning Trust and the London borough of Hackney work with Hackney schools using the Olympics and Paralympics as a tool to enhance schools’ work:

  • Curriculum innovation - in all subjects at all ages
  • Improving international understanding and language learning
  • Improve young people's health, sports participation and active citizenship
  • Preparing for the world of work

Young people have a variety of ways they can get involved – see the contact details below for more information.

Hackney 2012 Youth Ambassadors

The Ambassadors are a group of Hackney young people who are well informed about the Olympic and Paralympic Games. They are drawn from all the secondary schools in Hackney. They promote sports participation in Hackney and keep their peers up-to-date on what’s happening around the Games. They are also able to express their views about the issues surrounding the  planning and legacy of the Olympic park. They have represented Hackney on the Legacy Now Youth Panel, a voice for young people to have their say about the future of the Park. If you want to find out more about the work the Ambassadors are doing, get in contact with the 2012 Unit.
