The following reviews are proposed for each Commission for the 2008/09 municipal year.

Overview and Scrutiny Board

• Quarterly performance monitoring
• Directorate Question Time – theme tbc

Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Commission

In-depth reviews:

• The quality and reach of 0-5 service provision in Hackney.
• Child and adolescent mental health in Hackney.

Known one-off or regular items:

• Key stage 2 results in Hackney – report and briefing from officers.
• Careers information, advice and guidance offered to Hackney students – report and briefing from officers.

Health in Hackney Scrutiny Commission

In-depth reviews:

• Healthcare for London: A Framework for Action – Darzi review – stage two, consequences specific to Hackney.

One of the following (two should Darzi stage two proposals not emerge)

• Maternity Services
• Childhood Obesity
• Dementia

• Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)
• LINks
• ¼ updates from health partners

Living in Hackney Scrutiny Commission

In-depth reviews:

• Green Spaces (covering Parks Strategy and Open Spaces Strategy)  – to be concluded
• Affordable housing, including a focus on overcrowding

Regeneration and Social Inclusion Scrutiny Commission

In-depth reviews:

• Continuation of Growing a Local Economy review
• Worklessness - focusing on routes to employment and addressing benefits traps for those in receipt of long term benefits and those in need of child care support or benefits

• New powers to scrutinise the boroughs Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership – the ‘Safer Cleaner’ sub Partnership of Team Hackney

Governance and Resources Scrutiny Commission

In-depth reviews:

• HR work (Recruitment and Retention) – to be concluded
• Service First (knowing our customers / access to council services / Customer Services)
• The Elected Mayor; Six years on and its effects on the constitution

Ad Hoc Review
