Overview and Scrutiny Team
Hackney Council has a dedicated team of scrutiny support staff to undertake research, coordinate project work and manage work programmes for and on behalf of Scrutiny Members. The responsibilities of the Scrutiny support team include:
- In consultation with the Chair and Members, co-ordinating and managing the work programme of the Commissions
- Facilitating all Scrutiny Commission meetings, producing agendas and minutes, and chasing up action points
- Commissioning reports and presentations from within and outside the organisation, at the request of the Chair and Members
- Supporting expert witnesses and facilitating evidence gathering sessions
- Supporting review working groups in evidence gathering
- Producing the Scrutiny annual report and ongoing updates throughout the year
- Promoting an understanding of Scrutiny across the organisation, including raising the profile of Scrutiny across and outside the organisation
- Promoting the role and function of Scrutiny through local media
- Encouraging public involvement in democracy through engagement in the Scrutiny process
