Environmental Enforcement and Pollution Control - Service Policy
The Environmental Enforcement and Pollution Control Service is guided by the priorities of the Council, under the leadership of the Mayor of Hackney, Jules Pipe.
The service’s policy is outlined in two documents, the Hackney Enforcement Strategy and the Joint Enforcement Policy.
Hackney Enforcement Strategy
The Hackney Enforcement Strategy outlines how the service will reduce environmental crime in Hackney.
It discusses which areas and crimes the service will prioritise, and the different programmes and initiatives associated with it.
The Safer Neighbourhoods Joint Enforcement Policy
The Joint Enforcement Policy outlines the different legal enforcement options available to officers within the Safer Neighbourhoods Division to reduce environmental crime. The options range from education and awareness raising through to prosecution and beyond.
The policy also outlines the principles that officers must take into account in selecting the appropriate options, from transparency and helpfulness through to proportionality and prioritisation based on risk and need.
The following services are covered by the Joint Enforcement Policy:
- Environmental Enforcement and Pollution Control
- Building Control
- Licensing
- Environmental Health and Consumer Protection
- Private Sector Housing
Divisional and Corporate Policy and Planning
The Service also operates in line with wider policy and programmes. It sits within the Safer Neighbourhoods Division, part of the Neighbourhoods and Regeneration Directorate.
