We can offer help and advice to people with a disability who may need wheelchair accessible housing or housing which has been adapted to meet their needs.
We will carry out medical assessments for disabled housing register applicants and tenants who wish to transfer. Medical priority is awarded, and recommendations made for the type of property that is suitable. 'Vulnerability Advice' is given for homeless applicants.

If you or a member of your household has reduced mobility or other health problem, then the following questionnaires should be completed:
- health questionnaire part 1: about where you live now [pdf, 325.77Kb]
- health questionnaire part 2: about you [pdf, 72.65Kb]
We work with colleagues in health and social services to ensure a coordinated response is made to those with health, disability or support needs.
Bidding for suitable properties
The information in 'Choice Homes' and on the East London Lettings Company website includes floor level, access information and adaptations, so applicants can bid appropriately, and we encourage applicants to bid for suitable properties. Visit the Hackney Choice page to find out how to bid for properties.
Adapted housing transfer scheme
We have an Adapted Housing Transfer Scheme to encourage tenants in wheelchair standard properties to move out if they no longer need an adapted home. This frees up accessible accommodation for those waiting. Please see the leaflet below for more information.
