Special Needs Housing
The Special Needs Housing Team carry out medical assessments for disabled housing register applicants and tenants who wish to transfer. Medical priority is awarded, and recommendations made for the type of property that is suitable. ‘Vulnerability Advice’ is given for homeless applicants.
If a member of your household has reduced mobility or other health problem, then a yellow health questionnaire should be completed (pdf).Work is done with colleagues in health and social services to ensure a coordinated response is made to those with health, disability or support needs.
The information in ‘Choice Homes’ includes floor level, access information and adaptations so applicants can bid appropriately, and we encourage applicants to bid for suitable properties.
We have an Adapted Housing Transfer Scheme to encourage tenants in wheelchair standard property who no longer need it, to move. This frees up accessible accommodation for those waiting. Please see the leaflet under downloads for more information.
