The range of employment opportunities provided by Hackney's sports facilities can include:

Finding vacancies
Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) manage Hackney's sports facilities and some members of staff on behalf of the council.

Training opportunities
For those wishing to train as a teacher or coach in a particular sport, we are able to offer advice about the opportunities available (including, where possible, advice about funding options). For more information, please contact us using the details at the top-right hand corner of this page.
Specific training opportunities currently available include:
Free Stroke Awareness Workshop
Hackney Leisure and Physical Activity Team, in partnership with TLC Care Services, are providing stroke awareness and prevention workshops that aim to inform local people, council staff, health, social care professionals about stroke and its major risk factors. At the sessions we provide supportive information and reinforce the National FAST campaign that informs people how to recognise someone who is possibly having a stroke and treat stroke as a medical emergency.
Our tailored stroke awareness workshop is designed to provide information on the effects of stroke, general advice on working with people affected by stroke including overcoming barriers to communication and useful information about local pathways and community services for stroke survivors and cares.
The session covers:

- Understanding stroke
- Physiology
- Types of stroke
- F.A.S.T. test - recognising common symptoms of stroke
- Effects of stroke
- Supporting people who have had a stroke and overcoming barriers to communication
- Understanding risk factors of stroke
- Reducing risk of stroke
- Local stroke care pathways

Walk leader training
Walk leader training is aimed primarily at volunteers who wish to lead community walks, and is run where there is an existing Walk For Health Scheme. Find out more about walk leader training.
Royal Society for Public Health courses
Two exciting training courses are available for people who volunteer in Hackney (or one of the other hosts boroughs) and have an interest in improving people's health and wellbeing. Both courses have been designed specifically for people who volunteer in their community.
Places are limited and are on a first come first served basis.
Course 1, Understanding Health Improvement - 14 March 2012, 09.30 to 16.30
You will learn about the key factors which affect our health, how to encourage others to lead a healthy lifestyle and how to help people overcome the barriers they face when they try to improve their health. At the end of the course you will have the option of taking a short examination which leads to a recognised qualification. The training (worth £200) is free in return for a commitment to log your required volunteer hours on line. Venue: RSPH training room, John Snow House, 59 Mansell Street, London, E1 8AN

Course 2: Influencing Behaviour Change - 27 March 2012, 10.00 to 16.00
You will learn about the factors that influence good health and develop practical skills to support others to become more physically active. Changing habits can take time, effort and plenty of encouragement. Through this programme you will learn why people find it difficult to change their behaviour, the best ways to open up communication and new ideas on how to motivate others. This course will provide you with a clear understanding of how to help others to overcome the barriers to good health and become more active.
